Paul Hancox – The Presell System | 20 MB

If there were a system that could increase your online sales effortlessly, without pushing a hard sell, and instead gently guided people toward making a purchase—so that buying your product or service felt like the next natural step—would you be curious to know more about it? If the answer is yes, then read on as I share a remarkable discovery about making sales on the internet that could change your business.

Why You May Be Missing Out on Sales Right Now

There are essentially two common methods to generate sales online, both of which could be losing you sales if not done right.

The first way is directing people straight to a sales pitch. However, if the audience is not “warmed up” to the idea of buying, it’s highly unlikely they’ll convert. This happens for several reasons:

  • People have their “sales shield” up—they’re naturally skeptical of anything that feels like a direct pitch.
  • They may not trust their own ability to achieve the results you’re promising.
  • They might not be ready to make a purchase yet.

So, if you’re driving cold traffic straight to a sales page, you’re most likely leaving a lot of money on the table. The second approach is slightly better: offering something for free, such as a lead magnet, to build an email list of potential buyers. This method gives you the opportunity to follow up and nurture these leads via email, but it’s still flawed. Why?

Most marketers don’t have a well-thought-out strategy for their follow-up content. Instead, they send out random emails that mix sales pitches with content—hoping that something sticks. The problem is that people may start ignoring your emails, which results in low open rates and fewer sales. When desperation sets in, many marketers resort to sending more frequent sales pitches, turning their email list into a “pitchfest,” which can alienate potential buyers and significantly harm long-term business growth.

Discovering a New Approach to Online Sales

What if there was a better way? One that didn’t involve aggressive pitching or annoying your audience with non-stop emails? Well, there is. My name is Paul Hancox, and I’ve been marketing online since 1999. Over the years, I taught myself copywriting and learned the art of crafting compelling sales pitches. But one day, I stumbled upon a strategy that changed how I viewed online selling completely.

As an experiment, I replaced a traditional sales page with something different. Instead of a hard-hitting sales pitch, I created a simple page that outlined the product’s features and benefits. Then, I offered a free report to potential customers, along with a sequence of seven follow-up emails designed to pre-sell the product without going into full “sales mode.”

I focused on providing value through content, guiding people toward understanding the product’s benefits, and addressing their concerns. By the time they reached the final email, they were primed and ready to buy. To my surprise, this approach outperformed the standard sales pitch! The content did most of the heavy lifting, leading potential customers down a path where buying became the next logical step.

Why This Works: The Psychology Behind Preselling

The magic of this approach lies in what I call preselling. Here’s why preselling is often more effective than a traditional sales pitch:

  1. No Sales Pressure: When you provide informative content instead of a direct sales pitch, people are more receptive. They don’t feel like you’re trying to “sell” them something, which lowers their guard and helps them absorb the message.
  2. Words Don’t Matter as Much: In copywriting, every word must be perfect because even a small mistake can break a sale. In preselling, however, the pressure is off. You’re simply delivering useful content that guides your potential buyers through a journey.
  3. It’s Ideal for Non-Copywriters: Even if you’re not a skilled writer, preselling allows you to deliver content that moves people toward a sale—without needing to craft the perfect pitch.

People naturally resist sales pitches, but they love useful, relevant content. The key is to pre-sell your product or service through engaging content that warms up the audience.

Letting Customers Sell to Themselves

With preselling, you’re not directly selling to customers. Instead, you’re providing valuable content that leads them to make their own decision—one that naturally aligns with purchasing your product. For example, if you sell durable sofa beds, instead of pushing your product, you could publish articles about “maximizing space in small homes” or “turning an office into a guest room.” When people read your content and buy into the idea of saving space, they’re already a step closer to buying a sofa bed, even though you haven’t even mentioned it yet.

How to Build Trust and Authority Through Preselling

One of the best aspects of preselling is that it builds your credibility and authority. When you consistently deliver content that informs and solves problems, you position yourself as an expert in your field. Trust is a key factor in converting sales, and preselling is an excellent way to establish that trust without feeling like you’re pushing a sale.

Additionally, preselling helps you overcome common objections long before they arise. By addressing potential concerns in your content, you neutralize doubts and create an environment where your offer feels like the perfect solution to your audience’s needs.

A System That Works

The best part is that this system is easy to replicate. It doesn’t matter if you’re selling physical products, digital services, or anything in between. This method works across the board because it’s rooted in the psychology of buying. People need to buy into ideas before they buy into products, and when you align your content to support those ideas, the sales come naturally.
